How do I get my own Webpage/Domain?
I want to create my own website/forum with my own chosen domain name, eg: www.domainname.com.
Not something on Xanga or geocities.
Can anyone help me or tell me how to do this?
thanks

It costs $35/ year just to register the name. It costs arounf $10/month to host the site.
I would use a fully packaged hosting service, such as myhosting.com.
They will walk you through the selection process, and show you all of the FTP tools/forums/image archives that you will need to get a cool site up fast.

You have to register a domain name - then that name is yours. It should cost < $10.
Then you find a web hosting service, rent some space, get the name-server #s from them, go back to where you have the name registered, input the name-servers #s, make a web page & upload it to the web hosting company. It might take a day or two for everything to work.
The best price you’ll find for a ’starter’ web host is around $3/mo.

What you need is a web hosting. Try to look at thousands of web hosting provider available on the internet, or if you want my personal recommendation, try MediaTemple (http://mediatemple.net).
Usually, if you subscribe to one of their plan, you’ll get one free domain name.

If you’re serious about wanting to create your own website/forum the very best you can do is go to http://www.sitesell.com
They have all the tools, all the knowledge and all the help you could ever need. The cost is also amazing. Not $2000 US; not $1500; not even $1000, $500, or $250 US
Check it out man - it really is fantastic. Check my site as proof. In the last 6 months it has grown from 13 visitors in one day to 184 visitors in one day. That’s 14 times the original amount in 6 months.

2. Buy a hosting package from the same hosts or any of the thousand such hosts.
3. Create your website on your computer using html, dreamweaver, frontpage or the hosts online applications.

If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don’t go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.
If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months’ time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.
I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.
http://www.hostmonster.com/track/webhostster/
They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 600000 MB (600 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.
