After registering and paying for my web-domain name with site hosting, I can not find a way to access?

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

How do I begin accessing the site I purchases? I checked the search engine and it showed the name I claimed is available? The payment shows in my banking account so I know something is happening. Can you tell me what? Thank you for your prompt attention.

you usually have to wait 72 hours for your name to become active.. If if nothings happens after this get in touch with the people you registered the name with.

hope this helps

Registering a domain: if I pay x price, will it ever go up because of bids for the domain?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

One of my friend’s bands was just signed by interscope records, and I am creating his website for him. No one really knows about it yet, as he has not released anything, which is why (I assume) that I can register the band name as a domain for only $3 a year (and I’m willing to pay up to $50 if necessary).

But lets jump the gun and say that the group really does make it, and people want to establish a fan website or whatever. Will the people who I bought the domain name from take bids from the other people in which my name will always be up for auction?

And if this would be defined in the contract/user agreement, what terms should I look for?

Thanks!
Thanks; I forgot what website it was, but I was looking at the prices earlier and when I saw that one domain was taken, next to it it said "make bid."

no once you buy it the price is set on what you pay at the time of purchase, then its up to you if you want to sell it on.
Tip, do not keep going back to see if its available as this puts the price up, if you want it, buy it there and then
(the computer thinks there is more than one buyer otherwise)
and do it now as this is a well established site who knows who is logged in.

What do you think of these people registering web domain names to make a buck?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Why are these companies allowed to register every web domain on the planet then charge you to get it. AND it costs next to nothing! I think its disgusting!

The Domain game started in the 90’s where people started registering domain names and then selling them for a hefty price back to companies. Those who registered domain name earlier were benefited a lot from this over the coming years. According to me its a very fair game but you never know it might not to a thing as we move ahead.

What is the best free web host with no ads for a registered domain?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

I currently have a domain registered with GoDaddy.com, and was using their free hosting. I don’t like their banner at the top of my page.

Are there any sites that offer good hosting with no ads for free? I have seen lists from doing searches, but I was hoping to get some real people’s opinions.

Thanks in advance.

How do I transfer ownership of a domain registered with Yahoo?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I have a couple of domain names registered with Yahoo! Domains. I’d like to list them on eBay and sell them but I can’t figure out how I would transfer ownership after the sale. I don’t see it in the menus anywhere and the search of the help doesn’t yield any helpful answers.
Can anyone tell me how this works using Yahoo! Domains? Thanks.

This section of the Y! Help pages should help:

"If you decide to transfer your domain away from Yahoo!, you’ll need your authorization code…"
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/domains/authcode/authcode-02.html

"…give your authorization code to your new provider, who will need it to verify the move…"

Is it possible to host a website without registering a domain name?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

I’d have to think that there is some way, otherwise the internet is pretty much owned by domain name registrars, as they would be the ones that would govern all websites.

Yes, it is possible. All domain names are resolved to an IP address at the end. Domain names are easier to remember than IP addresses, that is why they are used.

For example, you can access Google by using one of the following methods:

1. By IP Address: http://209.85.227.147/
2. By Name: http://www.google.com

Even when you access the name; in the background it is transferred to an IP Address. So actually you are accessing an IP address at the end.

Registering a domain name is cheap these days. I would recommend http://www.JordanSoft.com; it is a Wild West Domain reseller similar to GoDaddy. This reseller is cheaper than GoDaddy for most of the same products. Buying from http://www.JordanSoft.com or GoDaddy makes no difference in service, but you can compare prices to save you a few bucks.

For Domain Name registration:

.COM: $9.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com

.NET: $12.99/year on GoDaddy, $6.49/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com

.ORG: $14.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com

And you will have everything you need to get started online for free, you get the following FREE with every domain:

. Free Personalized E-Mail Account: Free Fraud, spam and virus protected email that includes 1 GB of total storage

. Free Ad-Supported Hosting: Reliable and backed by 24/7 support, includes 10 GB of Disk Space, 150 GB of Transfer, Windows or Linux, FTP Access, and much more.

. Total DNS Control

. Free Forwarding/Masking

. Free Photo Album

. Free Blog

Hosting and Domain Registering?

What is the difference between hosting a webisite and registering the domain?

website hosting puts a website on the internet using an IP
so you conenct to the IP of the host to view the website.

A domain uses DNS to give your users an easier way to access your site, they just type it into their web browser and it resolves the webhost’s IP automatically behind your back.

When you type google.com your browser asks for the google hosts IP and then access the website from that IP, so from that perspective you can see how a domain has little significance as of whever a website is ‘online’ or not.
