DIY domain name renewals?

Friday, August 14th, 2009

My domain is up for renewal in a little over a month.

Is there a way to renew my domain name for cheap, or do I have to pay the price my current host is asking? I see all these specials for like $1.99 registrations but I think that entails switching hosts. I was looking for a DIY way if possible.
Too bad. I was hoping I could do the paperwork myself and forgo the fee.

Thanks for the answer.

You can transfer to another registrar, but you can’t register your own domains.

What domain registar would you recommend?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Hi all!

I am trying to register a domain name, but not sure where to register it? I found a couple of really cheap ones which I think are really good value, but not sure which is better at service and if they provide free DOMAIN NAME PRIVACY on the WHOIS website???

Here are the ones I’m considering:

1. GoDaddy.com - $6.95/year and they’re offering loads of other free stuff as well but I’m not sure how much they charge for private domain registration as I didn’t see it mentioned on their website…

2. Netfirms.com - $4.95/year plus free email and free domain name privacy on WHOIS website but not sure if their service is good and the cheap price is a bit suspicious…don’t know

3. FXdomains.com - $7.85/year and they’re also offering loads of free stuff with it just like GoDaddy are but they’re $0.90 more expensive than GoDaddy, plus they’ve got sale for private domain registration for $1.95/year but I’m not sure if this will go up on your second year as it’s sale now.

Please tell me if you know any other good registars that are good value like these ones and why you would you recommend it? Or maybe is GoDaddy good enough and I’m being too choosy? I would very much like to know your opinion on this.

Thank you very much!

I have used aplus.net and smallbusiness.yahoo.com for my domains without any problems. Godaddy.com is a good firm to use. Register quickly else the dotcom you want will vanish real quick as a name-idea can pop into any head at any time. ;-)

Best choice for buying domain name/web hosting?

Monday, August 10th, 2009

I’m interested in making a website with my own domain name. I have hardly any web page making skills yet but I think I could learn quickly.

I’m not sure how to start off the "getting a website" process though and I’d rather not get a free website from angelfire or anything like that.

I want to register a domain name and I’m not sure whether I’d rather get like a 5 year registration from somewhere cheap or a more expensive "domain name forever" (which sounds really good). I’d want a domain name forever because i might stop using the site for a while and come back to it later, and i wouldn’t want to keep the web hosting during the break but still keep the domain name. My requirements for web hosting are easily met. Two digit figure bandwidth/storage are probably fine.

Option 1 is from e.g. 3ix.org getting a domain name AND a web hosting - i believe its total $21 a year.
Option 2 is getting a more expensive plan like webhostingpad.com but getting a domain name forever and being able to switch hosting after a year or so. First year costs nearly $60.

Questions:
- Am i mistaken about anything I’ve said, have i been misled
- If my needs are practically met by any service provider, what is my best option? (not necessarily one i’ve mentioned)
- By the way is there a way to buy a domain name forever without web hosting?

Dear friend, you can’t buy a domain name forever. you should know that even google and yahoo websites have not bought their domain names forever and they have no way but to renew their domain names before expiring.

Some web hosting services mislead their visitors by saying this sentence "Domain forever". But in fact this sentense means" as long as you use our web hosting service you can own this domain name."

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If I were you I bought domain name and web hosting service both from GoldPuma. http://www.goldpuma.com is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($3.99 /month). As an experienced webmaster I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. Their service is really great and easy to use.

This way you can own your domain name with or without web hosting service. After a while if you don’t need yur web hosting plan you are allowed to not renoew it and just renew your domain name and own it.

Are There Any Sites That I Can Get A Domain And Hosting From For VERY Cheap, Or Even Better Yet: FREE?

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

I’m looking to buy a particular .com domain name that’s listed as available, however I’m on a budget, I’m also looking for hosting.

If you know of a company/site, can you list it here for me to review, and list it’s pro’s and con’s.

I’m looking for the following features with my domain registration/hosting:

Multiple email addresses, (around 10 should suffice).
Construction tool and HTML editor, (my knowledge of HTML and CSS is intermediate at best, but I do have some widgets and custom HTML that I would like to impliment in conjunction with the construction tool).
Very cheap, or free, with no advertising.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Can anyone recommend some trustable domain name registrars from UK & USA with good reputation.?

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Reliability & reputation is what I am looking for.
As for domain registration price, it is ok if it is not the cheapest out there, as long as it is trustable.

If you happen to have some experience and/or knowledge in this, it would be greatly appreciated if you could kindly share it.

Thanks in advance!

Are there advertisements [of any kind] on Yahoo-registered domain names? Is Yahoo the best to register with?

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I’m making a website for my father’s small business and I have a few questions about registering a domain name. I’ve built websites before, but never had my own domain name to work with and I’m a little confused.

My first question is where are the best - but also cheap - places to register a domain name? I am planning on using Yahoo’s domain registration service, but if there’s some place I’m missing that’s better, please feel free to tell me!

My other, more important question is this: will there be advertisements of any kind on my domain name, if I register it on Yahoo? Let’s say I register the domain name dadsbusiness.com and use basic HTML to upload a few web pages - will there be any popups or any ads on the site itself?

I’ve looked all over the Yahoo pages devoted to domain name registration and I can’t find the answer to that ANYWHERE. Anyone who can tell me, straight-out, if Yahoo-registered domain names have ads on any of the webpages will not only get ten points, but will get all my appreciation!

"Will i have ads or not?" is based on your hosting, not the domain name.

I host with yahoo - i pay $12 a month - This includes hosting, domain name, e-mail @ my domain name and no ads. I’ve also purchased more domain names and simply linked them up with my hosting. Pretty simple and no one realizes that I only host at one place. All of my webpages seem like seperate sites.

And even though I have html knowledge, I just go ahead and use their html builder which, after entering your yahoo ID & pw will publish your files for you.

I’ve never had any downtime with my hosting. Never had a problem with customer support. I highly recommend yahoo for both hosting and buying your domain. And I honestly don’t think you can get a cheaper domain than what they offer here. Believe me, I searched for days before choosing yahoo!! I believe that new customers get a 1 yr domain for about $3. And as far as hosting (includes domain) its generally $8.95 for 3 months and $11.95 thereafter (for cheapest plan).

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to either e-mail me at chris@ksh49.com, or send a message through yahoo 360 or you can IM rt49andellis. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!

And by the way, I’m an affiliate for yahoo. Decided to sign up as an affiliate because I had a few people asking me to build sites for them. Yahoo is very reliable so thats who I chose for hosting. I didn’t post in hopes of a sale, only posted because I hate getting ripped off and hate seeing others ripped off!!! (That’s why I didnt post a link for you) I rememer that when I first started with HTML, I paid $80 for a domain and $30 a month for hosting. I was NOT happy when I found better deals!!!!!

If you decide to host with them, let me know, I’ll send you a link and we’ll split the profit. :)
