A Firefighter Career

What makes a job firefighting the final dream job? Enthusiasm! Doing what you love and loving what you do. I really like everything regarding firefighting. I like dragging and/or rolling fire hoses. I like climbing the large, truck installed ladders. I like riding the engine, code 3, lights and sirens down the highway. I love being the first one on the team creating entry right into a burning building, watching the fire build, then doing what I’m trained to try and do and knocking the hearth down. I really like wearing my turnouts (bunker gear) and helmet, carrying a heavy, air tank, and dragging a fire hose.

What do I like about firefighting? I like returning to your station, reloading the fire hose on the engine. I like washing the engine. I really like hand drying the engine and making certain all the equipment is secured, place away correctly and ready to use on the subsequent call. I like being hot, sweaty, bruised and having tired muscles, as a result of I feel like I earned them.

The firefighters I work with jokingly say, “we tend to show up, in the center of the night, smash the windows, cut holes in the roof, deluge the home with water, drag enormous hoses through the landscape after which we are thanked for coming.”
