Isn’t it disgusting that people are making a buck off the VT massacre?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Just hours after a student at Virginia Tech went on a killing spree that claimed 33 lives Monday, speculators began snatching up domain names related to the shooting.

Dozens of people registered sites like vatechbloodbath.com, virginiatechmurders.com and blacksburgmassacre.com through companies like GoDaddy.com and Enom, Inc. Several of the names went up for sale on eBay later that day.

OMG that is horrible!! I know someone who died. Lauren McCain. It is really sad!! My brothers favorite teachers died ther also. It struck me like a blow to the head. People are stupid and idiotic. Hopefully people will see this is not VT’s fault and it doesn’t reflect on the school. VT is one of the best schools. This could have happened to Yale or Princeton also. VT was just really unlucky.

hi, can someone tell me how to register for a free domain name? thx =)?

How do I start my own hosting service?

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

I am pretty active on my computer, I want to start a hosting company, so people can buy hosting for their domains, I have 0$. So I cann put money into it… I dont know how to create templates, any way I can start and how?

Although you will not be able to get started to 100% free if you can spare around $24/month you can get started. You will need to get a reseller hosting account.

These are available from all sorts of hosting companies, but I like Hostgator and I think it may be the cheapest. You then just need to work on getting some customers. You could try targeting offline companies and could charge anything you like (perhaps $10/month), so you will make your money back easily.

I just became a reseller with makemoneysellingdomainnames to resell web hosting and domain names?

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

I just became a reseller with makemoneysellingdomainnames to resell web hosting and domain names. I joined because I build a decent amount of websites for my own use. I was wondering why a lot of webmasters and IT people aren’t in the reseller business. I drive a taxi and talk with a lot of IT people and almost none of them take advantage of controlling the cost for web hosting. Isn’t this strange? Any comments welcome.

I think you’re wrong when you write, "I was wondering why a lot of webmasters and IT people aren’t in the reseller business."

In fact, an awful lot of people, including webmasters, IT professionals, and others, are in the hosting and domain reselling business. There are certainly at least "tens of thousands," and possibly many hundreds of thousands of "web-hosting" businesses out there, most run by people who also do web development work.

Some professionals do this "surreptitiously," creating an apparently-separate company which they use to register and host client sites. Many do it openly, telling their clients that they own the hosting or registration company.

Those professionals who do NOT resell web-hosting or domain-registration services frequently believe that their sole charge should be based on their time, not on reselling services at potentially inflated prices.

In addition, some professionals choose not to resell anything other than their own services, because they recognize that over time, the level of service at most hosting and registration companies can change.

Over the past 12 years, I’ve hosted my own and clients’ web sites on several dozen different servers (including dedicated servers, colocated servers, and many shared servers), and registered domains with many different registrars. Recently, I consolidated all my registrations to a single registrar, and I also consolidated all hosting to a single provider, but it’s likely that I’ll move some or all of this within 12 months.

What’s the difference between…?

What’s the difference between

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/?s_fptrough=wh_acq_getwebsite_20081001

AND

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/?s_fptrough=dm_acq_domainname_20081001

Yahoo Domains simply gives you a domain, but you’ll have to find a computer (known as a server) to host it on. The server would most likely be your computer, meaning whenever anyone went to your website, they would be accessing files on your computer. This means that whenever you want your website to "work", you would need your computer to be on. Yahoo Webhosting gives you a domain and space on a server to host your files on for your website. I would HIGHLY recommend Yahoo Webhosting.

Are there any websites where I can buy a domain and a web host all in one?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

For a relatively cheap price?

Thanks in advance to all who answer my question!

I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/

Powweb has the best offer right now. It’s on a 50% sale - $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.

Domain name registration and Credibility?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Suppose if some ‘John Grisham’ registers a domain www.legalthrillers.com. , but gives details of his identity as ‘John Bosham’.What are the legal implications? Can John Grisham claim it’s his domain in case of a dispute? In which way can he?

Because as far as I see domain registrars do not ask for any Identity Documents. If payment too is made with an fake paypal account. How can domain his ownership be determined?

Thank you.

Some domain sellers, like http://www.JordanSoft.com, offer free change of registration. This means you can assign your domain name to another registrant, right online. You can change all four contact fields for the domain whenever you want.

In your case, ‘John Crisham’ can simply change the registrant to his own name. If the current domain seller does not offer this option, ‘John Crisham’ can simply trasfer the domain to a seller like http://www.JordanSoft.com and then change the registrant.

Can you register a domain for free?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

No. Either you have to buy the domain outright, or you buy hosting from a paid provider who is willing to supply you with a domain.
