Domain name registration — help me get control back!?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I was dumb enough to sign up with an ‘easy do-it-yourself online web design’ services. You know–’fill in the template online and then you have a wonderful website easy and cheap’ sort of thing…

It did not work out, which is fine. The problem is that when I signed up, I registered the domain name through this service. Now I want to use this domain name elsewhere on a professionally designed website, but it seems to be locked into the previously web design mentioned service–type it is an the poor, unfinished webpage appears. No one at the company seems to be interested in returning my calls or emails, so I am not sure if I can get this name back.

I really need this domain name. It is officially under my name when found on the internet, but I don’t know how to free it from this lame website it is attached to…

Any advice? I don’t know so much about this and it is really important for my business that I get the domain name under my control!

Best regards,

Jeff

Okay. If you registered the name through a different website go to them and see if they can revert it to point to their servers like it was originally.

If it is registered by this rouge company who wont return your calls. Try using the domain name transfer services of another entity. Usually they do all the work for you.

Remember if you still own the domain name, as in you pay for it, it is illegal for them to restrict access. If this is the case seek legal advice from an internet entity called IANA. They do all the domain registration.

Hope I helped

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I want to start my own website. I am preety good with computers, so I am not a complete beginer. I don’t really want to buy any programs or anything, I just need to know how to get the website.
Thanks in advance!
I would want a .net, not a .com.
So is there anyway to just start one without the use of hosting people?

I need a reliable place to register a domain name, cheap too preferably?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I use an apple laptop. I need a domain name that is short and memorable, not part of a long string of characters.

if you do end up with a long domain name you can go to www.dot.tk and register a domain shortcut so you just have www then a name then .tk

Is there any difference with whom you register your domain name? Why pay $20 if you can get it for $9?Any diff?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

There is big difference how much WEB domain name costs depending upon who is selling it. What difference does it make for me from whom I buy it? Should I go for cheapest? Are there any known risks? I was looking at Verio.com who asks $9.95/year. I read some reviews and they appear to be legit company, but WEB hosting isn’t very reliable. Should I worry about it? I don’t need hosting, I have reliable hosting, but they charge quite a lot for domain name registration, so I would buy domain name from cheaper place, but host it somewhere else. Any pitfalls? Any suggestion who has great price and relyable service?
I am looking at HostOtter.com. Seems excellent price $6.95. Has anybody any opinion?

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime.

What is proper etiquette when hosting a dinner party with seated service and multiple courses?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

What is proper etiquette when hosting a dinner party with seated service and multiple courses?
For example:
How do you proceed if a few of the guests are slow eaters? Is it appropriate to make the rest of the dinner guests wait or to clear each course after a specific amount of time and serve the next?

Unless the wait becomes really tiresome (and that becomes clear by the fidgeting of the guests who are waiting for the next course) then each course is served to all guests at the same time. If the conversation at the table is lively, most people will not notice that there are laggers; but should the wait become difficult, simply announce the next course and have it served. The laggers will wither relinquish their plates, or ask that they be left. In that case, honor the guest’s request. You’ll sometimes find, particularly at a multiple course meal, that some will not eat all they are served. It is not necessarily a signal that the food is unsatisfactory, but may be a sign that portions are very generous.

What is the best internet web hosting company for a potential web site with videos and pictures?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I want to create a web site for my videos, but I want to know which hosting company or plan to choose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you intend to create a few websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website), go for multiple web hosting where you could handle your websites in one account.

I suggest following webhosting , they are quite good.

Hostmonster http://anurl.com/?PQMRY

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 200000 MB (200 GB ). They only charge $4.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.

Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

DOMAINNAME.com/forums to IP:PORT/forums?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Ok here is what I got,

I have a webserver running on port 81 on a home computer

(for example sakes the address will be 111.111.111.111:81)

Now I have a domain name (ex: DOMAINNAME.com)

One of my questions is if I want the DOMAINNAME.com to bring up stuff on the homeserver like for example:

111.111.111.111:81/forums to
DOMAINNAME.com/forums

How do I do this?

The homeserver is running WINXP PRO SP2 with Apache 2.2.3

I have complete access to the following control panels:
Registar control panel (melbourneit.com.au)
cPanel @ DOMAINNAME.com (cPanel 11.16.0-C18546)
WHM Control Panel @ fakehostingcompany.com (WHM 11.11.0)

Can I do it?
If I can how?

Thanks in advance!

ok let me try to explain it better, I have a webserver on my home computer running on port 81 which is Apache 2.2.3, now I also have a domain name example.com, I want it so that if YOU were to goto example.com/forums it would grab it from my home webserver that is running on port 81, not a redirect I want it to actually mask it completely, do you get my question?
and I don’t care how much work it will take just as long as I can do it =)
ok and I am doing that on my home webserver or domain webserver? and if it is only on my home webserver how does my domain webserver know to point to my home webserver ip?

thanks in advance,

Do you want people outside your network to be able to hit it?
if so you need to set up the DNS forwarding wherever it was that you got the domain name to point to your IP.
their browsers will automatically mask the IP.
